Could contact lenses change your life?

If you are a glasses-wearer, you may have often wondered ‘are contact lenses better than glasses?’ Over 3.5 million people in the UK have made the switch. Here are 5 reasons you might want to give them a try.

Contact lenses offer day-to-day comfort

For some people, it can be difficult to choose spectacles that really suit your face. If you have a diamond or triangle shaped face, or a prescription that is quite high, if can be difficult to find a frame that fits. The look and feel of wearing glasses can make you feel self-conscious and affect how you feel about yourself.

Contact lenses provide bare comfort and a natural look. In a study of over 5,000 contact lens wearers across five countries, 80% agreed that contact lenses make them feel more confident.*

Contact lenses can help you to take back control of your look, allowing you to feel good about your appearance and show the world your confident face.

Contact lenses improve performance

Enjoy the freedom to move and perform to your max. Football, tennis, rugby, hockey, athletics… all these fast-paced sports can be challenging for a glasses-wearer. But unlike glasses, contact lenses won’t bounce around on your face or slip when you get sweaty.

Contact lenses also provide more precision in your vision when it counts. Whether you need a wide field of vision on the pitch, a high level of detail for accurate measures or a crystal-clear view to focus on your hobby, contact lenses provide a huge advantage over your regular specs.

Contact lenses allow you to see with natural vision

Did you know that contact lenses will give you a more natural view of the world than wearing glasses?

Looking through your spectacles can feel a bit like experiencing the world through a tiny porthole. The frame of your glasses and the blurriness of vision beyond the edge can interrupt your sight.

Contact lenses give you the whole world to look at with crystal-clear vision in all directions.

Choosing contact lenses can be particularly beneficial if you have a high prescription. A higher prescription results in magnification or minification effects through your glasses, meaning objects can appear larger or smaller than reality. But contact lenses rule this effect out.

And as for that problem all glasses-wearers hate… there is no need for the tiny windscreen wipers you have long dreamed of. Contact lenses won’t steam up in a hot room or become covered in droplets on a rainy day!

Contact lens technology is incredible

Most contact lenses today are soft and flexible. Once they have been applied you may feel a little tickle underneath the eyelid, but that quickly disappears and you feel nothing at all. In fact, contact lenses don’t actually touch your eye at all, instead they float on a thick layer of tears. This makes them very safe and effective.

At Spectacular Opticians we have access to a world market of products. And there is an incredible selection of contact lenses out there to suit every need:

  • Daily soft lenses, which are disposed of each day, offer great convenience and are easy to use.
  • Annual and monthly soft lenses, which are cleaned and sterilised each night, are durable and allow for a wider range of prescriptions.
  • Rigid Gas Permeable lenses, which also last a year or more, let in lots of oxygen and provide very sharp vision.

Contact lenses are suitable for (almost) everyone

With so many choices of lens products, there is a solution for most people to give contact lenses a go.

The youngest we would typically fit for contact lenses on a full-time basis is 14 years of age. However, for part time wear, we can support children from as young as eight to trial contact lenses if it will help them to participate comfortably in the sports and hobbies that they love. Our expert Optometrists even fit specialist lenses in children as young as six for myopia control.

There is no maximum age for wearing contact lenses. It can become more challenging for some people as they get older because as we age our eyes dry out a little and there may be more issues with the external health of the eye. However, in recent years there are many new contact lens products designed to combat these issues and so many people can continue to wear lenses very successfully.

So, if you have every wondered if contact lenses might be for you, perhaps today is the day to try.
